I finally figured out why the iPad requires a...
My apologies if this “insight” is obvious (or obviously incorrect), but it just occurred to me and I thought it was worth sharing. When you buy an iPad, you must plug it into a computer in order to set it up. That’s mystifying to me, since the device can independently connect to the Internet and to Apple’s stores for music, video, and applications. As far as I know, the...

under the wire: How Wired.com Tracked the iPhone... →
In response to Wired.com’s scoop identifying the finder of the lost iPhone prototype, many have asked me how we did it. The process of uncovering digital footprints to identify Brian Hogan was indeed challenging and enlightening, so I thought I’d tell the story here. Heck, it might even teach…

Half an hour of security footage related to the killing of the Hamas leader in Dubai. I’ll watch the whole video at some point — but it’s amazing how suspenseful the first few minutes are.

Apple Store madness.
lewiskingblog: Apple stores don’t have “no smoking” signs. Legally they need them but they “ruin the design of the store”, so for every apple store in the UK they pay £50 a day to keep their windows sign free. Crazy shit. EDIT: I forgot to include the source, it’s a friend who works in the Apple Store in Norwich, The evidence is the fact that they aren’t actually in the windows.

In defense of ebook readers
marco: Marc and Clint are defending ebook readers from the categorical criticism and doubt in blogs over the last few days, sparked by remarks by John Gruber and Jason Kottke. I got a Kindle 2 in February, mostly so I could make Instapaper work well on it. I expected it to be used mostly as a development device that I would occasionally use to read a book. The following week, Tiff was packing...
