Names That Match Forge a Bond on the Internet - New York Times
I used to work pretty hard to keep myself off of Google search results — I set the robots.txt on my blog to keep search engines out, I didn’t use my full name in any posts elsewhere, etc. I liked the feeling of privacy that came from being on page 2 (or later) in Google.
Lately, though, I’ve started to tip the other way — being more comfortable appearing in search results, and even being jealous when (as now) I’m not the #1 result for searches on “Joshua Auerbach.” It seems other people feel the same way.
